The size is too tiny for my 4 year old. The sound could use improvement. Wish we loved it.

Baby girl loves pinging on this tiny hand held instrument. It’s a little off-key, but she doesn’t seem to kind at all. I even figured out how to play “twinkle twinkle” on it, haha. 4 stars instead of 5 for not being 100% tuned, and she’s too young for the necklace strap, but it’s a super fun little piece and can entertain for hours.

The media could not be loaded. This little instrument really holds its tune! When I received it, it was completely out of tune… normal for something like this… and with one of the tuning hammers from my full-size kalimbas, I hammered the tines into tune. That was about a month ago, and the tines on this little kalimba are still in tune! I am very impressed! It comes inside a cute little case, with a lanyard, so you can wear it like a necklace. It does not come with a tuning hammer. You would have to buy one separately, or use one from another kalimba. It’s sturdy, made of solid wood, and the wood is very nicely polished. This would make a great gift for a child, or use it yourself when you’re feeling bored standing in line… it’s very quiet, so it won’t bother anyone around you. It might attract some curious attention, though. The price is great, it’s a cute, well-made little kalimba. Since this is only 8 tines, your musical repertoire will be severely limited, but it’s nice for fun. My other two kalimbas are top brand names and professional quality, with 34 and 36 tines, so I have some good comparisons to draw from in giving this review. I think this is a great buy! If you are new to kalimbas, this is a great little thing to introduce yourself to the kalimba playing method and sound!

I'll keep it as a novelty. It came on tuned but even tuned there is zero resonance. Also, it's really too small for adult hands. Might be a nice gift for a child though but order a hammer as well because this does not come with a hammer. It does have a nice little hard case.

Great gift for family

It will make music in a sense but it goes out of tune easily so you won't be able to keep a proper tune. It's fine for a kids toy but you may want to look for a better one.
