Eero Gateway is a MUST for high-quality Eero installations
We are a technology company and use these Eero PoE gateways all the time, I've never had a problem, easy deployment, great value for our customers, highly recommend for even non-POE installations!

No-brainer for multigig connections
While eero has been positioning the PoE Gateway as a small business-oriented product, I have been using one at home on my bonded fiber + coax connection (HawaiianTel at 1Gbps down, 500Mbps up and Spectrum at 1Gbps down and 50Mbps up) with pretty phenomenal results. While my Pro 6E leafs with ethernet backhaul do a great job of handling most devices, they also host switches in some rooms for me. Relying solely on them and using the 2.5Gbps port for backhaul left only their 1Gbps port for downstream devices — obviously effectively then limiting speeds across the network to a gig. By putting a multigig switch in each room first, I'm now able to get much nearer to the 2Gbps performance that's theoretically possible (although, in practice, it is usually between 1.6Gbps and 1.9Gbps raw combined with the two upstream connections, less SpeedFusion overhead).eero has always excelled at making setup deadsimple, and while even I sometimes would love to be able to tap into some geekier capabilities, I've also spent probably hundreds of hours of my life troubleshooting other routers and their broken features, undocumented bugs, and inexplicably incompatible configuration issues. With eero, things just work — beautifully so. And the new PoE Gateway certainly reinforces that reputation.

Not a good design
Just about everything is great about this device, so I won’t list all the good but list the bad. One slightly bad thing about this product is lack of mounting options you can do with this, but it gets way worse. The false marketing about POE on this device is straight up criminal. You will only get 97watts available to use, but the lie goes deeper. Instead of like every other POE switch I’ve ever used allowing you to use up to the max power allocation, this device locks allocation to connected devices max POE rating. So for instance I have two WIFI 6E WAPS that I know use only10watts each but rated for 60watts, Eero gateway then locks you at 60watts used. This means I can’t even power up my other WAP cause that would be 120watts and way over the 97watt max, instead the actual 20watts I need to power them. They market saying 8 POE ports that you can’t even use more than one for modern devices. Stinkin lies from the tablecloth. Runs way to hot also, I expect it to die in less than year because of this. ** UPDATE- 2 months later and it over heats and drops WAN connectivity multiple times a day just like I feared. Avoid this poor design device.

Works!
Not using the POE capabilities. Have 3 Eero Pro 6E that I was using before. Love them, except for the fact that they only have one 2.5 Gb port (the other is 1Gb). So, if you have multi gig internet service, or (as in my case), a multi gig media server in the house, they are all limited downstream from the gateway at 1Gb for a wired solution. The POE Gateway allows for an all Eero solution (DHCP, controls, and monitoring) at 2.5Gb throughout the house (with added bonus of two 10GbE ports for future proofing).Saw some comments that it is pricey, but considering that a multi gig POE switch can cost $500.00 or more, the price is reasonable for this unit (keep in mind that a single Pro 6E costs about $200.00 when on sale).Just wished that they would list all the MAC addresses on the units (you can only get the MAC in the app once it is connected to your system). My ISP requires the MAC of the home gateway for authorization - had to call Eero for the MAC, and they only gave me a single MAC, when every port has a different MAC. Required a bit of plugging and unplugging cables to the ports to find the correct one.

Works like a charm!
The product arrives in great simple packaging with a premium feel. After replacing my existing unmanaged poe switch from another vendor, the file sharing between windows hanging off two poe eeros works seamlessly. But at this price point, the power adapter should be built-in. The external power adapter takes space an becomes clunky, which takes off one star.

Worth if after the trade in discount
I traded in an older Eero in order to get the trade in credit and, more importantly, the 20% discount on new purchases. With this new gateway, I can increase the speed of my wired network with a dependable product and free up my prior gateway to use in a better place than my attic. No issues with heat, although I have a dedicated plug in fan aimed at my modem and other equipment. This part of the attic has AC but it's not always effective.
