EO [DVD + Blu-ray]

This is an uncompromisingly brilliant work of cinema. There are so many important things that need to be accounted for in trying to review it, not least that it marks the first example of drone-cameras I have encountered that adds dimensionality to the cinematography (as opposed to diminishing the art). If I had to sum it up, I would say this is Bela Tarr with a smile, or that it is everything that David Lynch aspires to be for his lack of ability, or perhaps, a Kubrickian window into the should of an animal.

EO is a beautifully crafted work of art: amazing cinematography, great direction and a haunting soundtrack. Concerning its message it is so good to see that modern cinema still has something to say. Well deserved Oscar nomination 2022!

I didn't enjoy this film at all. I love donkeys and was excited to watch this movie after hearing excellent reviews, even thiugh I knew some of it was hard hitting. How the donkey moves on from home to home and escapes etc is just not realistic and the ended was not a great one and not realistic either. Sorry this one wasn't for me.

why does meaningful and profound mean down right miserable? We are all aware that cute animals are abused -certainly people who buy and watch such films do so why wallow - if you need to feel indignation and sorrow watch this but there are plenty of examples via the internet of suffering without adding to the heap of misery. This film is not positive the end is not necessary it could be upbeat - what is the message what can we do to stop this suffering Crime and Punishment - the scene where the poor horse is beaten to death or Nietzsche seeing a horse killed in Italy but very well filmed but inevitably dull - we know about these things but we need to do something about it - basically we’ll filmed gloom fest - seriously as a warning don,t watch if you are kind to animals or feel for other.

A fair idea for a film script and a delightful donkey (who sadly ends up as salami) but the story is interspersed with what we came to call 'arty-farty interludes' where the cameraman or script writer (or director, or whoever had the idea) take us off into long, very annoying periods of flashing lights, foggy mornings, robot dogs falling over (!) and the like, none of which is ever really relevant to the story. Typical film festival fodder.
