Q: Does this require a separate battery or is it inside the product and just needs the usb charging cable? the information sheet is confusing!

No battery needed as you just charge it up with the usb and lasts for two weeks plus!

Q: How big is the space in the feed compartment? As I am thinking about using this for Algae wafers.

I'm not sure if the size as not at home but I put flakes in for my flake eating fish and algae wafers for my plec too

Q: Would this stay suctioned to inside of tank above water level as cant leave tank window open?

No it clamps on to the side of the glass . glass no suction

Q: Is this feeder suitable for small pond

No it’s for indoor use only .The feeder has an opening in the drum which contains the food that revolves round to feed the fish.The food would get wet and therefore wouldn’t work if put outside.
