Q: Does the lid snap on or just sit over the bottom tray?

Thanks for your question. Bonviee 5-Pack Seed Starter Tray Seedling Starter Kits lids are sit over the bottom tray, but they are well sealed. And the adjustable vent is attached to the lid. You should push the vent to the lid hard until you hear a soud of "click" that means the vent is attached to the lid tightly. Hope it can help you and best wishes for your gardening.
